Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute over 31,000 hours to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.

PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE
The Senior Manager, Philanthropy (Mid-Level Giving) will play a key role in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with mid-level donors, therefore, fostering a sense of community and ensuring their continued support. This position bridges the gap between annual giving and major gifts by developing innovative, data-driven strategies to grow revenue and to deepen donor engagement. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with local Shelter Movers Chapters, as well as across teams to provide a seamless and rewarding philanthropic experience for mid-level donors.

YOUR FOCUS

Mid-Level Donor Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage, solicit, and steward mid-level donors giving annual gifts between $1,000 and $9,999.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of approximately 250 mid-level donors, maintaining regular personalized outreach and communication.
  • Calendarize and execute stewardship plans, including, but not limited to: impact reports, thank-you notes, and donor recognition events.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Philanthropy to execute moves management strategies aimed at upgrading mid-level donors to major gifts.
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Annual Giving and Campaigns to execute moves management strategies aimed at upgrading annual donors.
  • Use data and research to create personalized solicitation plans tailored to donor subsegments.
  • Ensure all interactions are tracked in the CRM for effective moves management and reporting.
  • Monitor donor gift reports, and ensure timely thank-you notes and documentation are submitted and recorded within 48 hours of receiving a gift.
Donor Engagement Strategy and Recognition
  • Develop and execute giving strategies to engage, recognize, and retain mid-level donors.
  • Work closely with the Marketing & Communications team to create aligned but personalized donor communications focused on acquiring, stewarding, renewing, and upgrading mid-level donors.
  • Plan and execute strategic in-person and virtual events aimed at cultivating and stewarding mid-level donors.
  • Provide timely updates and impact stories to mid-level donors, ensuring they feel connected to Shelter Movers’ mission.
Collaboration and Cross-Departmental Coordination
  • Work collaboratively with all teams and internal stakeholders to ensure that mid-level donors receive a seamless, consistent and rewarding philanthropic experience.
  • Coordinate with national and local chapter fundraising teams to identify and qualify mid-level donor prospects and ensure consistent donor communications.
  • Contribute to donor journey strategies that span across Shelter Movers’ annual giving, monthly giving, and major gifts. 
Data Analysis and Fundraising Evaluation
  • Track and analyze donor data to monitor mid-level donor engagement, performance metrics, and fundraising success.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs for the mid-level giving program and prepare regular reports on activity, revenue, and donor engagement outcomes.
  • Use insights from data analysis to refine and improve fundraising strategies, focusing on increasing retention, upgrading donors, and identifying new prospects.

SKILLS YOU WILL NEED
  • Minimum 5 years experience in fundraising with demonstrated ability to solicit 4-5 figure gifts, with experience managing relationships across a portfolio of individuals, family foundations, businesses, and organizations. 
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue goals and KPIs.
  • Experience developing customized, growth-oriented donor engagement strategies that match organizational objectives with donor interests.
  • Ability to create targeted communications, proposals, and stewardship reports.
  • Strong knowledge of donor database/CRM systems and fundraising software. 
  • Ability to analyze donor data to inform strategy and track fundraising success. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams to support overall fundraising goals. 
  • Strong emotional intelligence and a flexible working style, with the ability to work remotely and travel as necessary.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience creating compelling, on-brand messaging that inspires donor engagement and support

EXTRA USEFUL SKILLS THAT YOU MAY HAVE!
  • Knowledge of the Gender Based Violence sector, specifically women’s shelters, is an asset.
  • Advanced understanding and interest in gender studies, including anti-racist, anti-oppressive frameworks and intersectionality of challenges faced by women and particularly survivors of abuse in the local community is an asset.

JOB TYPE: Full-time, Permanent
COMPENSATION: $ 75,000 - 90,000 Annually
LOCATION: Remote, Occasional travel within Canada may be required
HOURS OF WORK: 30 hours per week (with some evening and weekend availability as needed)
