About Shelter Movers

Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charity providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people (primarily women and children) as they transition to a life free of violence. Since 2016, we have completed over 7,000 moves.

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Associate Director, Community Engagement is an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team. Responsible for managing two annual signature events, the incumbent will also support community engagement across the country to drive revenue and reputational growth.

We are looking for a results-driven individual who will help grow our current base of supporters to scale our operations; someone who is ready to take the next step in their career where they can have tremendous impact in an organization with a wealth of untapped potential.

Key Responsibilities

Work closely with the Chief Development Officer to develop and implement an annual strategy to cultivate and steward prospects and donors through community engagement and events
Lead the planning and execution of two annual signature events in Toronto; act as a liaison for the volunteer committees who curate these initiatives
Build a robust third-party events program that encourages communities across the country to partner with us
Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to increase awareness of Shelter Movers and support Cause Marketing initiatives
Provide guidance and support best practices amongst the team leading events in their region

Qualifications

Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English are required; bi-lingual in french is an asset
At least 5 years of proven success in event management and experience managing volunteers; understanding of the charitable landscape a plus
Experience managing volunteers
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with proven success in relationship building and the ability to work effectively with all levels within the organization
Familiarity with Google Workspace, MailChimp, Canva, CanadaHelps, Zoom and donor management software is a plus
Understanding and/or interest in gender based violence, including anti-racist, anti-oppressive frameworks and intersectionality of challenges faced by women and particularly survivors of abuse
Flexible, results and detail-oriented
Demonstrated commitment to professional growth

Additional considerations

Job Type: 35 hours per week
Salary Range: $85,000-95,000 per year
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Type: Day-to-day work is completed remotely
Travel across Canada may be required occasionally

Compensation
