 About Shelter Movers
Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charity providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people (primarily women and children) as they transition to a life free of violence. Since 2016, we have completed over 7,000 moves.

Working at Shelter Movers means creating a meaningful impact for families experiencing abuse. It also means showing allyship and playing a tangible role in breaking the cycle of gender-based violence. We are growing and looking for compassionate and highly skilled people to join our team. 

About the role
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Philanthropy is an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team. Providing mentorship and guidance to a team of fundraisers across the country, the incumbent will also be responsible for carefully maintaining their own portfolio of donors. 
We are looking for a results-driven individual who will help grow our current base of supporters to scale our operations; someone who is ready to take the next step in their career where they can have tremendous impact in an organization with a wealth of untapped potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Chief Development Officer to develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year, national fundraising strategy 
  • Establish strong relationships and collaborate with Chapter Directors to support their provincial fundraising targets 
  • Provide guidance and mentorship while building a strong foundation of best practices in fundraising amongst the team
  • Achieve annual goals through identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding corporate, foundation, and individual gifts
  • Prepare regular reports on progress, challenges & opportunities 
  • Play an active role in National prospect research and pipeline development 

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English are required; bi-lingual in french is an asset
  • At least 5 years of proven success in a charitable fundraising environment and experience managing direct reports
  • Experience soliciting gifts in the six and seven-figure range
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with proven success in relationship building and the ability to work effectively with all levels within the organization
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, MailChimp, Canva, CanadaHelps, Zoom and donor management software is a plus

  • Understanding and/or interest in gender based violence, including anti-racist, anti-oppressive frameworks and intersectionality of challenges faced by women and particularly survivors of abuse
  • Flexible, results and detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth

Additional considerations
  • Job Type: 35 hours per week 
  • Salary Range: $95,000-105,000 per year
  • Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
  • Type: Day-to-day work is completed remotely, with travel between Toronto and South Western Ontario regularly
  • Travel across Canada may be required occasionally

Compensation

$95,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
