Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. Every year, in collaboration with community partners, our volunteer teams contribute tens of thousands of hours across Canada to support people transitioning to lives free of violence and abuse.

PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE
Shelter Movers is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Communications & Design Specialist to support the organization’s national marketing and communications activities.

The Communications & Design Specialist plays an important role in bringing Shelter Movers’ mission and impact to life through compelling storytelling, high-quality visual materials, and engaging communications across digital and print channels.

Working under the guidance of the Senior Director of Philanthropy and in close collaboration with the Fractional Head of Marketing & Communications and chapter-based teams across the country, this role is responsible for producing communications materials, managing social media channels, designing campaign assets, and supporting national fundraising and awareness initiatives.

This role focuses on day-to-day production and execution of communications materials across multiple platforms, ensuring Shelter Movers’ communications are consistent, engaging, and professionally presented.

YOUR FOCUS
Digital Content Creation
  • Develop and produce engaging digital content that supports Shelter Movers’ campaigns, storytelling, and organizational communications initiatives
  • Writing and editing content for social media, newsletters, and website updates
  • Developing blog posts and storytelling outlines that highlight Shelter Movers’ impact
  • Supporting fundraising campaigns through digital communications
  • Preparing organizational announcements and updates
  • Adapting communications content across multiple formats and platforms
Visual Design
  • Create visual assets that support Shelter Movers’ communications and campaigns across both digital and print channels
  • Designing social media graphics and digital campaign assets
  • Creating infographics and visual storytelling materials
  • Designing presentation slides and digital collateral
  • Designing print materials such as brochures, posters, signage, event materials, and donor communications
  • Adapting campaign assets for use across multiple formats
  • Preparing print-ready files for external vendors when required
  • Ensuring all materials align with established brand guidelines and maintain visual consistency across communications channels.
Social Media Management
  • Manage Shelter Movers’ national social media channels
  • Scheduling and publishing social media posts
  • Monitoring engagement and responding to comments or messages when appropriate
  • Supporting social media campaigns and awareness initiatives
  • Tracking performance and identifying opportunities for improvement
Website Management
  • Maintain and update Shelter Movers’ website to ensure information remains current and accessible
  • Updating campaign pages
  • Posting blog content and news updates
  • Supporting event and fundraising pages
  • Coordinating website updates with communications and fundraising priorities
Email Communications
  • Support the production and distribution of email communications
  • Format emails, test content and links, and schedule distribution. 
  • Email communications may include: quarterly newsletters, fundraising appeals, campaign initiatives, event promotions
Content Asset Management
  • Maintain a centralized library of communications assets
  • Organize, maintain, and ensure accessibility of materials for future communications and campaigns. Assets may include: photographs, videos, campaign graphics, survivor stories, media coverage
Performance Tracking
  • Support basic marketing and communications reporting
  • Track key metrics and prepare summaries to inform communications planning and improvement. Metrics may include: social media engagement, email open and click rates, website traffic

SKILLS YOU WILL NEED
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in communications, digital marketing, or content production
  • Demonstrated ability to independently produce communications materials across multiple formats, including written content, digital graphics, and print-ready design files, while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience managing social media channels and digital communications
  • Experience creating visual materials using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms
  • Experience designing materials for print and preparing print-ready files
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms (MailChimp) and website content management systems (Webflow and Wordpress)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working in the nonprofit or social impact sector is considered an asset.

EXTRA USEFUL SKILLS THAT YOU MAY HAVE!
  • Experience reconciling fundraising revenue with Finance or bank records
  • Familiarity with third-party giving platforms, online donation systems, and event registration tools
  • Experience supporting recurring gifts, pledge administration, and donor inquiries
  • Alignment with Shelter Movers’ mission and a commitment to equity, anti-oppression, survivor-centred, and trauma-informed work

ROLE DETAILS
  • JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent, Remote
  • COMPENSATION: $ 60,000.00 - $66,250.00 Annually
  • LOCATION: Remote, anywhere in Canada
  • HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week (with some evening and weekend availability as needed)

Compensation
